Album Info

With Chico Freeman you can always expect the unexpected and his third album for IN + OUT Records with Brainstorm is a fascinating and surprising mix of jazz, rhythm blues, rap, reggae and African elements – yet throughout there is a clear unity of purpose, feeling and commitment. Joining Brainstorm on this session are special guests Ada Dyer, Urszula Dudziak, Rodney Harris and Thulise Khumalo. One of jazz's genuine nonconformists and trail-blazers, Chico Freeman has produced an album whose ten tracks represent, in his own words,a musical journey of discovery.
“Chico Freeman is more original and more versatile than most of his contemporaries.
(British jazz writer and broadcaster Brian Priestley)
Principally recorded at Sound Studio Leyh, Heidelberg, Germany on October 27 28, 1992. Includes liner notes by Mike Hennessey.
