Об исполнителе (группе)

jamesvalentine/ We are about playing good grooving feels and sounds of now. We play top flight jazz, but we use the tunes of today.

Об альбоме (сборнике)

I love to play. I play saxophone and I love to explore what it can do and what I can do. The saxophone’s a slippery old pipe. It’s got a hundred different sounds and none of them are programmed. Gary plays a Fender Rhodes, a fabulous old Roland Organ and mind bending accordion. Peter and Cam lay down the finest groove a hornist could wish for.
We start with a simple idea. We love the old school jazz approach of the great players. They'd blow a great melody, they'd cook it up for a while and everybody would be smiling at the end.
We do that, but we use the tunes of now.
Our last recording The Power and The Passion explores the Great Australian Songbook; those tunes that first bashed out on guitars in pubs and clubs around the nation and now lodged permanently in every Australian's brain.
Jazz players have always explored whatever music is around. But there was never much connection between the Australian jazz world and the world of Midnight Oil, Divinyls, Cold Chisel and Hunters and Collectors. So I wanted to see what might happen when a jazz quartet had a go at some of these.
I haven't tried to overdo the tricky harmony, get over smart with the rhythms, just play the tune, have a blow on it, and remember a time when we were all girt by these great bands.
