Review by Scott Yanow

Bassist Ray Drummond and an all-star group that includes trumpeter Randy Brecker, flutist Thomas Chapin, guitarist John Scofield, pianist Kenny Barron, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, and drummer Marvin Smitty Smith perform a variety of challenging compositions, including a few veteran pieces (such as Sophisticated Lady and The Intimacy of the Blues), obscurities (Scott LaFaro's Gloria's Step and Tom Harrell's Sail Away), and a couple of Drummond's originals. Alternating some blues-oriented numbers with more complex pieces, Drummond put together a varied program that brings out the best in his illustrious sidemen.
